Special Communication Organisation(SCO) is sponsoring Samina Baig to attempt K2 (8611 meters). According to Samina Baig, an agreement was held at SCO headquarter in Rawalpindi on Friday. She said that her expedition will start from 1st June to 31st July 2021. The dream to climb a mountain over 8000 meters at home in Pakistan was my dream, she said. DG SCO Major General Ali Farhan attended the ceremony and signed the agreement with Samina Baig. Her K2 expedition will start in May from Skardu.

She would be the first Pakistani and Muslim woman to climb K2. Her expedition to K2 will raise awareness about climate change and global warming. Samina Baig is a young professional climber. She climbed Mount Everest in May 2013 and became the first Pakistani and youngest Muslim woman to climb Mount Everest at the age of 21. Her expedition to Everest was filmed in the documentary Beyond The Heights. Moreover, at the age of 23, she climbed the seven highest mountains in all continents of the world. In addition to that, in 2010 she became the first to climb Chaskin Sar(6000 meters). The peak then renamed Samina Peak. The government of Pakistan also awarded the pride of performance award for her achievements.

Samina Baig belongs to Shimshal valley Hunza Gilgit Baltistan. She started climbing at the age of 4. Later her brother Mirza Ali trained her and then she became a professional climber.
