Gilgit Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has finally accepted the grievances and long-standing demands of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and has announced significant relief packages and dramatically reduced airfares from Islamabad to Gilgit and Gilgit to Islamabad, according to the official website of PIA. According to the new fare, the one-way fare from Gilgit to Islamabad and Islamabad to Gilgit and Islamabad to Skardu and Skardu to Islamabad has been fixed at Rs 7,120, while the one-way fare is Rs 6,490 in case of getting a seat directly from the official PIA website.
However, a one-way fare of Rs 14,070 per passenger will have to be paid in case of obtaining a ticket and seat before the departure of the plane at the airport in chance. The decision of the national airline to reduce fares for Gilgit-Baltistan has been implemented immediately. The initiative is aimed at developing and promoting tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan. Earlier, PIA had raised fares on Islamabad-Gilgit route which had caused anxiety among the residents of Gilgit Baltistan and tourists.
The residents of GB and tourists particularly appreciated the new fares policy of PIA. They said it will promote tourism to Gilgit Baltistan, as the tourism season has started in the region. On Monday, SAPM Zulfi Bukhari has announced to start international flights at Skardu Airport. He said that the first plane carrying international tourists will land at Skardu airport on 1st June 2021.
