ISLAMABAD: The government has announced to start international flights at Skardu Airport from June 1 to promote tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan. For this purpose, all preparations are being completed at Skardu Airport. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Zulfi Bukhari said that the government was paying special attention to the promotion of tourism, which had been neglected for the last 70 years.
He was addressing a function in Islamabad. Addressing the gathering,he said that this would not only solve the problem of youth unemployment but also help the economy to get back on its feet. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan aims to promote tourism in the country as much as possible. The government is taking several steps to attract international tourists. In this regard, international flights are being started at Skardu Airport from June 1.
Zulfi Bukhari said that the first international flight carrying international tourists will land at Skardu Airport on June 1. This will be a milestone for the promotion of tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan. Zulfi Bukhari also said that loans are also being given on easy terms to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan to construct guest houses for tourists so that the accommodation facilities could be provided to tourists. He said, “we want to simplify the process of organizing events for the promotion of tourism in Pakistan”.
Referring to the difficulties in traveling to Gilgit-Baltistan, Zulfi Bukhari said that one flight goes to Skardu daily and three are canceled. In these circumstances, how can we think of promoting tourism, but at the same time he said that Aviation Authority has taken an important decision and has started finalizing the arrangements for launching international flights to Skardu and the first international flight will land at Skardu Airport on June 1.
He said that international hotels were trying to persuade China to set up hotels in Pakistan for the promotion of tourism. He said that Taxila Museum would be made world-class.
