Three climbers has started their first winter expedition to K2 (8611m) the world’s second highest peak. The team include John Snorri from Iceland, Muhammad Ali Sadpara from Skardu Gilgit Baltistan and his 21 years old son Sajid Ali Sadpara.
On December 1 the climbers started their journey towards K2 base camp. They will reach on K2 base camp on Sunday. According to tour operator the climbers will start climbing the peak on December 8. It is interesting to note that K2 has never been climbed in winter. Mr. Ali Sadpara is a renowned climber , had climbed K2 and all 8000 m peaks in Pakistan in summer. Ali Sadpara also had the honour to climb Nanga Parbat in the winter season
John Snorri from Iceland had also climbed Lhotse peak, Broad peak, and K2 in summer. Last year John Snerri also tried to climb K2 in winter, but he abandoned the expedition at 6600m due to bad weather. Around 50 climbers from around the world will scale K2 in this winter. Another team will also scale Broad Peak(8051m) in this winter.
