Two international team arrived Pakistan to climb K2 in winter for the first time. K2 the crown of Karakoram mountain range is still unclimbed in winter. 21 climbers started to the adventure in attempt to be first climbers of most challenging peak of the earth. The members are well prepared and determined to break the past record. Climbers belong to Spain, Poland, Nepal, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan. They will reach Skardu via Karakoram Highway and are well equipped of modern communication devices and cold prevention arrangements.
They will drive up to Askoli the last human settlement before the trekking route toK2 where they will begin the trek to K2 Base Camp. All the team members have a good experience of climbing the high altitude peaks above 7,000 meters, and the team also has a winter snow leopard in the person of Vassiliy Pivtsov, who has climbed all 14 highest peaks of the world without the use of artificial oxygen
Alex Txikon is also a member of this team and leading it. He will climb with Felix Criado from Galicia, Spain. Alex already climbed Nanga Parbat. The other team members include Polish climbers Marek Klonowski and Pawel Dunaj and an eight-member strong team of Nepalese Sherpas.
In past 4 climbing teams tried to scale K2 in winter but they failed.K2 is the second highest mountain in the world after Mount Everst. But it is more difficult to climb K2 than Everest. That’s why climbers couldn’t climb K2 in winter. Meanwhile another team of climbers Daniele Nardi from Italy with Britain’s Thomas Ballard and two Pakistani team members, Rehmatullah Baig and Karim Hayat, are attempting a new route to Nanga Parbat in winter. They reached the Camp 1, but heavy snowfall forced them back to the base camp the other day.
The team started its adventure on Dec 24, 2018. Last year a team of international climbers climbed Nanga Parbat in winter for the first time but they lost one climber, and another climber rescued by rescue team.
