Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will soon begin exceptional flight operations from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to Gilgit and Skardu, offering weekend and holiday packages in order to promote tourism in Gilgit Baltistan. The decision was taken at a meeting held between Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan and Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Dr Kazim Niaz.
In a press release PIA and GB government agreed to work together with the local tourism division to advance tourism activities in the beautiful areas.
A meeting of the commercial department of PIA and tourism department of Gilgit-Baltistan was also decided to plan to form a solid and rational strategy, offering affordable and attractive packages to the tourists.
On the occasion, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan shared that the special direct flights from Karachi and Lahore will be started to Gilgit Baltistan and cargo service will also be used effectively for transportation of fruits and dry fruits of mountainous areas to down cities of Pakistan.
He said that “It will enable the residents of Gilgit Baltistan to earn their livelihood in a respectable manner”.
He further explained that the special flights will help strength the economy of Pakistan along with presenting a soft and positive image of Pakistan to the international community . He assured that all possible measures will be taken to promote tourism activities in Gilgit Baltistan.
Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary praised the different reforms formulated by the advisor and thanked him for collaborating with tourism department for promoting tourism activities in the province.
